This course is providing basic information on the role and responsibilities of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). It also gives an overview of the humanitarian action environment, coordination mechanisms and international cooperation in case of different types of crisis. In addition, the course encompasses information on international search and rescue actions, including medical capabilities within World Health Organization (WHO). It is based on the OCHA Preparedness and Response Effectiveness Programme (PREP) Course, which is a foundational training on humanitarian response delivered by an UN agency.
